Calling it AI humanizes things too much. "They", the tech giants and the media, are referring to this conglomeration of tech, communication, software, hardware, and human creativity, as "AI". It's really probably the rise of the anti-christ, false prophet, or beast, of revelation.
Just referring to it as AI makes sense, but I suspect we will be even quicker to humanize it when they think they've made the jump to "General Artificial Intelligence". Then it may be indistinguishable from a human.
