Old Piper Dan Road Ranch on Tongue River. This was a well-known, early-day stopping place, for freighters and ranchers. Note Piper Dan with his beard and apron. Dan received his nickname "Piper" from playing the pipe organ.

A lot has changed since Piper played his pipe organ. Those were the days when a guitar player would have really stood out from the organs and pianos everyone else played. I can't imagine keeping a piano in tune. But a guitar, with just 6 strings, would have been quite manageable.

Send money and I'll see if we can take a road trip to the ruins of Piper Dan's Road Ranch on Tongue River.
